This was probably addressed when the waiver wire was released but something I just noticed. We are on the championship game sim and I claimed 2 players to see what their contract demands are. They aren't to my liking so I want to put them back on the waiver wire .. the caveat is I am on the hook for their ENTIRE salary for the year (granted not their bonuses). Couple questions ..
1. Why am I on the hook for the entire year salary?
2. If I am going to assume that salary even at that point, shouldn't the original team be credited back that salary? I looked at the team's cap space before making the claim. After the claim, it's the same number.
I have the cap space to take the hit so it's not a problem. But it could be VERY problematic for new owners using that as a source to rebuild a team (since they can't trade) assuming all that extra salary.
Solution?
-Possibly base the payouts over the season including playoffs? That way if player A is released by Team A after the regular season ends, Team B gets them at a reduced rate. Team A is responsible for the bonus and the "game checks" to that point. Team B handles the rest of the checks at that point. (If the player goes unclaimed then Team A pays the remaining contract for that season).
As it stands right now Player A is getting double the salary .. and that's not the way it should be.
