I'm somewhat new and I'm getting ready for my first draft. Can someone explain how the draft plays out please?

Id say start here:

http://blog.myfootballnow.com/?m=0#uds-search-results

There may be a few differences with the newer game releases but you have a few days to get up to speed.

Just search draft

It'll be pretty self explanatory once you see the war room. Once the sim timer expires, the player on the top of your queue will be drafted. There is not button or anything like that to confirm your selection, just make sure you want to pick the player that's on top of your queue.
Your queue is also a priority list, so you can drag a bunch of players in and it will select the topmost one.

yes you have 7 draft picks one for each round of the 7 round draft.

there is 2 ways people go about drafting a player

1. if like they select 10th position and they don't need any players they just put 10 players in the manual priority list then hope that they get one of those players.
also if they do need players like you need 2 LG's that they will put 10 of the LGS in that manual priority list and hopefully get a LG at their draft pick.

2. now there are some people who just let the computer pick the player where the draft board has them on it and if that player is still available it will pick him.

also if you rather not be bothered by the draft you can trade your draft picks or some of them.

me personally about your team I would move 1 of the LT to RT then move 1 of the RG to LG then move 1 RDE to LDE then move either 1 of the MLB or WLB to SLB then move 2 of your FS 1 should go to the CB and other to SS.

that way you would only have to draft a LG for your team unless you could get him from Free Agency that way you can select a player that you WANT instead of what you NEED.

Because if you don't do what I just said about moving players you would have to draft 2 LG's , 1 RT , 1 LDE , 1 SLB , 1 CB and 1 SS though that would be 7 players and you have 7 draft picks though you probably wont get as good players for each if you do that.

also remember you can only have 60 max players for your team and knowing you have 52 players with 3 contract offers that means you will have 55 players with only 5 spots for draftees which you would have to cut either 2 players that you have or that you just drafted.

Punisher, why are you offering advice on the draft? You have admitted you don't even understand football or how the draft works.

BigDaddy...

I would disregard any of this advice if I were you.

Let me see he asked how the draft works.

I may have admitted those things but that doesn't mean I am not going TRY to help someone else.

And unlike other people that once they get what they want from someone else and the first chance they get they throw those people under buses I will go out of my WAY to help someone even if I don't know something and even if I do trade the draft picks I have doesn't mean I should throw him under the bus or to the WOLVES by at least trying to explain how people do their DRAFTS .

funny part about advice WAR EAGLE is it is like Suggestions you can do it or you don't have to it
Or it is like someone telling you to get a HAIR CUT you can either get your hair cut or you can disregard what that other person is telling you and let the hair grow out and look like a werewolf.

But either way doesn't hurt him or me by giving advice that for the most part a big majority of the game probably do.

That would be like someone telling him he should get guys with serious speed at the SKILL positions where most part most people here actually go after the speed guys to help their team.

So does each round happen per cycle (day) or do multiple rounds happen in a cycle. Like in the real draft the first round is on day 1, rounds 2-3 are day 2 and the rest of the rounds happen on the last day. Is our draft layed out the same as the NFL or spread out more?

Round 1 is a day, Round 2 is a day, 3+4 is a day and 5-7 is a day.

This is god awful, if you need a LG you do not put 10 left gaurds on the priority list... You have to take more into account than just what positions you are short on.
- what's the best player available regardless of position?
- what positions are the hardest to get? (For example you need an offensive linemen, there are no great linemen on the board but a stud CB or safety. You should take that defensive back almost every time) RBs for example are almost always drafted higher because they are a prime position, good offensive linemen can typically be drafted later. If I have a high first round pick I'm always looking at Defensive back, RB, WR, and stud defensive ends above all else.
- you can search the draft class to see if you can fill that position later, especially of you feel that position does not have anyone worthy of that current pick. I'm not going to use a top 10 pick on a 85 rated gaurd or tackle
- it's important to look at the players page to determine what they are good at, overall ratings can be misleading, that 90 rated WR may be slow as dirt and therefore not nearly as useful as that overall rating would indicate
- find guys that fit your scheme, if you play a man heavy scheme then a zone coverage rating means very little or nothing to you.
- do not be afraid to look at other positions that can play one you're looking for. That OLB that is 6'3, 260 pounds and terrible in coverage might actually be a stud DE if he has good speed, strength, acceleration, pass rush, and run defense.

As for how the mechanics work, when the time is up for your pick the top guy on your board is automatically selected. You can trade your pick until the selection is made. After a trade there is no more time granted to make the pick regardless of when the pick was traded. After the player is selected you can change position and jersey number as you chose, or even trade that player. You can also void the contract to release that pick, the cut would then be processed in late free agency 1.
