The Austin Longhorns remained unbeaten this season, beating the Oklahoma Sooners 23-0 on Saturday at home in Week 7 of the 2036 regular season. The victory improves the Longhorns' record to 7-0 and keeps them atop their division standings.
Longhorns head coach Edward Bolin's squad opened the scoring early with a 32-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kirk Rose to Derrick Brooks following an interception by Angel Ackerman on the Sooners' first drive. Richard Brown's extra point gave Texas a 7-0 lead with 13:24 left in the first quarter.
Despite several punt exchanges, the Longhorns defense maintained a strong presence, limiting the Sooners to only 81 passing yards on 15 completions and 35 rushing yards. Sooners quarterback Christopher Johnson threw two interceptions and was under consistent pressure, including two sacks recorded by Carl Leary.
On the offensive side, Kirk Rose completed 23 of 45 passes for 296 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Brooks contributed significantly with 53 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown, and 80 receiving yards with a receiving touchdown.
The Longhorns extended their lead late in the second quarter when Brooks scored again on a 4-yard run with 38 seconds left in the half. Kicker Richard Brown connected on all three field goal attempts, adding nine points to the scoreboard.
Special teams played a notable role in field position. Texas' punter Timothy White frequently pinned the Sooners deep, with multiple punts exceeding 45 yards. Bryan Prue consistently called for fair catches, minimizing return potential for Oklahoma.
The Longhorns defense recorded two interceptions and one sack in the game, while forcing multiple punts without allowing any scoring threats. The Sooners struggled offensively, failing to convert any third downs and not reaching the red zone.
This defensive dominance combined with efficient scoring ensured the Longhorns' seventh consecutive win and improved their division record to 3-0. The Sooners dropped to 6-1 overall with a 2-1 division mark, now on a one-game losing streak.
The Longhorns will look to maintain their perfect record as they continue their schedule, while the Sooners must regroup after their shutout loss. Both teams remain key contenders in the division race heading into the second half of the season.
